// Pathways to Sustainability Networking Event//

Last week our Sustainability students took part in a Networking event that was put on by the program’s Project Manager Amina Jalili and Career Connections instructor Meena Dowlwani.

Our students were thrilled with the idea of having employers and recruiters meet with them on campus to inform them of possible job opportunities and giving them pointers on how to land their dream job.

We had six panelists from a number of different organizations including a popular employer amongst our students HATCH. They also had the chance to hear a success story from Vinod, who can relate to our students in a number of ways being a new comer to Canada, that through hard work and determination has made a name for himself and now sits on the PEO (Professional Engineers of Ontario) board.

In the New to Canada Bridging program our main goal is to help our students land a job in their field, and our work isn’t complete until we do so.  The feedback that we receive from our students is valued and we try our best to meet their needs.

// Skills For Change’s Conference for International Engineers and Employers//

panel at International Engineers and Employment Conference

On Friday, March 30th 2012 the New to Canada team took part in Skills for Change’s conference for International Engineers and Employers.

It was a great opportunity for new comers with an engineering background to network and have their questions answered regarding how to jump start their career in Canada.

Aside from the great informational panel discussions and workshops that were a part of the event, we were couldn’t have been more proud than of our bridging program alumni’s that received awards.

We would like to congratulate Khalid Ibrahim and Farius TJ Tjioesman from our Engineering Software Skills Enhancement program, and Raghbir Singh from Trades Win who were awarded the 2012 Ontario International Engineers Success Award.

All of your dedication and hard work has finally paid off, and we wish you more success in the future. Let this be a lesson to new comers to Canada that anything is possible once you put your mind to it and work hard for it.
